TEZPUR, June 17: A preparatory meeting for the observance of Bishnu Rabha Divas 2025, scheduled to be held on June 20, was convened on Tuesday at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Sonitpur, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ankur Bharali.
The meeting was graced by Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava and attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kabita Kakati Konwar, Executive Magistrates, the Cultural Development Officer, representatives from the Education Department, local colleges, and several cultural and social organisations.
In his opening address, DC Bharali highlighted the directives issued by the Cultural Department, Government of Assam, urging collective efforts by all departments and stakeholders to commemorate the occasion in a meaningful and befitting manner. He emphasised that Bishnu Rabha Divas provides an important opportunity to honour and spread awareness about the immense contributions of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha to the fields of art, music, culture, and social reform.
ADC Kabita Kakati Konwar briefed the gathering about promotional initiatives being undertaken as part of the celebration. As part of the outreach, five dedicated vehicles will be deployed across the five Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) of the district. These vehicles, operating between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, will play Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha’s compositions, visit key locations, and engage with schools and colleges to popularise his artistic legacy.
DC Bharali also directed that all schools within the district should conduct a special speech or address during the morning assembly on June 20, focusing on Rabha’s life, philosophy, and cultural impact. Higher educational institutions have been encouraged to organise seminars or lectures highlighting his multifaceted contributions to Assamese society.
Discussions were also held on the live streaming of the central state-level programme, which will be hosted in Nalbari this year. Additionally, the meeting deliberated on arrangements for the Shraddhanjali (tribute) ceremony to be held at Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Samadhi Kshetra in Tezpur on the morning of June 20. The district administration has assured full coordination among departments to ensure that Bishnu Rabha Divas is observed with the respect and reverence befitting the cultural icon of Assam.
