July and August is a great time to go to Ladakh, with clear weather, little rain, and warm days between 15°C and 25°C. The high passes open up, and the journey becomes easier, and the stark landscapes of this cold desert look wonderful under the hot summer sun.

Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh
Similar to Ladakh, Spiti Valley is a cold desert located in the rain-shadow of the Pir Panjal range. It remains relatively dry even in the monsoon, so July and August is an excellent time to witness its harsh beauty, ancient monasteries, and barren landscapes.

While spring and autumn are peak times in Tawang, July August has its own still magic. Rains might retard travel slightly, but then render the landscape as a misty, tranquil paradise. Monasteries seem even more tranquil, while the cloud-enveloped mountains give an air of mysticism.

While Rajasthan is usually boycotted in the monsoon, there is one exception: Mount Abu. As the sole hill station of the state, it provides a welcome respite from the desert heat. With rain-washed verdure, gentle breezes, and foggy views over Nakki Lake and the Aravalli hills, it's a different monsoon retreat.
