GUWAHATI, Mar 15: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at a public rally in Assam’s Dergaon, declared that more than 10,000 youth surrendered arms and merged with the mainstream during the last ten years. He attributed this change to the concerted efforts of the central and state governments in bringing peace, stability, and growth in the area.
Shah pointed out the drastic change in the topography of Assam, underscoring that the state, which was earlier plagued by insurgency and unrest, has witnessed a transformation beyond recognition.
He credited the transformation to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “Over the last 10 years, peace has come back to Assam. The youth who had taken up arms have now turned towards progress and are working towards the development of the state,” he said.
The Home Minister also appreciated the Assam government for its efforts in modernizing infrastructure, providing employment opportunities, and launching welfare schemes that have been instrumental in ensuring peace. He reiterated the government’s pledge to transform Assam into an economic growth center and a symbol of cultural harmony.
The Dergaon event saw a huge turn-out, with thousands of people cheering the government’s initiative in providing security and stability.
Shah ended his speech by assuring the Assamese people that the government would keep working towards upholding law and order and inclusive development in the state.
