SIVASAGAR, Aug 7: Asomiya Yuva Mancha has announced its plan to launch a protest against ONGC management and the Sivasagar district administration in response to ONGC’s recent 372 vehicle recruitment notification. The organisation is expressing displeasure with the new criteria set by ONGC for vehicle drivers, which requires a minimum of three years of experience as divers. The Mancha argues that this requirement violates the standard set by the Road Transport department for drivers’ qualifications.
Jadov Gogoi, president of the unit, raised the issue of the discrepancy in the driver qualification standards set by ONGC, which differs from the national standard on which driver licenses are based. The organisation demands that ONGC recruit local employees for the Sukapha Multi Speciality Hospital funded by the company and declare Nazira as an ONGC Township. Additionally, they urge ONGC to invest in the area’s development, considering the significant revenue the oil giant has earned from the Sivasagar district over the past six decades.
The organisation had submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, Sivasagar, and the executive director of ONGC, Nazira, expressing their concerns on July 27. However, as there has been no response from ONGC, Asomiya Yuva Mancha has decided to call for a 24-hour ONGC bandh on August 9. The decision was made during a meeting in Sivasagar, attended by central committee president Jadov Gogoi, executive members Dharmakanta Gogoi, Dwipen Nath, district committee president Jadumoni Kalita, secretary Bishnujyoti Saikia, and others.
