Guwahati, April 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has criticised former Nagaon MP Rajen Gohain, a senior BJP leader, for his statements that could harm the party’s interests during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Sarma stressed that such actions by a senior party member on an important polling day are not acceptable. He stated that in the BJP, there is no distinction between old and new members and the party’s strength lies in its unity. Sarma expressed hope that the state party president would convey Gohain’s remarks to the national leadership for necessary action.
“I hope that our state party president will relay Rajen Gohain’s message to the National President of the BJP. The national leadership will then evaluate his criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on polling day and decide on his future in the party,” said Sarma.
Rajen Gohain had earlier commented on the internal conflicts within the BJP, predicting potential election losses. Despite his reluctance for such a scenario, Gohain attributed it to the current national situation.
He urged the party to recognise the contributions of seasoned party workers and leaders and warned that the current leadership could be making mistakes leading to the party’s downfall. His remarks highlight the wider tensions within the BJP regarding its election strategy and internal unity.
