GUWAHATI, July 25: Assam Governor and Chancellor of State Universities, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, administered the oath of office to seven newly appointed Vice Chancellors of state universities at a formal ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here on Friday.
The event was held in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior dignitaries.
According to an official statement, the Vice Chancellors who took oath are Prof Taranee Deka (Bongaigaon University), Prof Niranjan Roy (Gurucharan University), Prof Jyoti Prasad Saikia (Jagannath Barooah University), Prof Ganesh Chandra Wary (Kokrajhar University), Prof Mukul Bora (North Lakhimpur University), Prof Hitesh Deka (Nagaon University), and Prof Mahadev Patgiri (Sibsagar University).
Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, S S Meenakshi Sundaram, opened the proceedings of the solemn function with a formal request to the Governor to initiate the oath-taking ceremony.
The occasion was also graced by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, chief secretary to the Government of Assam Ravi Kota, Education Advisor Prof Debabrata Das, OSD to the Governor Prof Bechan Lal, Secretary of Higher Education Narayan Konwar, Vice Chancellors from other universities, and several senior government officials.
The Governor, while administering the oath, extended his best wishes to the new appointees and expressed hope that they would uphold academic excellence and work towards strengthening the higher education system in Assam.
The newly inducted Vice Chancellors are expected to lead their respective institutions in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) and contribute to holistic development of higher education in the state.
The ceremony marked a significant step in the ongoing academic restructuring in Assam and reflected the state government’s commitment to fostering leadership in the university ecosystem.
