Assam Rifles Battalion celebrates 77th Independence Day

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 17: Under the auspices of HQ inspector general Assam Rifles (East), an Assam Rifles Battalion marked the 77th Independence Day with fervour as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, a tribute to Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The celebration took place on Tuesday, at Lokra village in Sonitpur district. The event saw the active involvement of ex-servicemen from Lokra village, students from Gyan Vikash Academy School, and the local community from both Lokra and Laberghari villages.

A press release highlighted that in the presence of an elated audience, the commandant of the battalion hoisted the national flag, accompanied by the resonating notes of the national anthem. The commandant delivered a solemn speech to honour the valiant martyrs of the nation and acknowledged the ex-servicemen for their selfless dedication to the country. Additionally, the significance of Independence Day was succinctly explained by the speaker. Amidst the event, flags were distributed to all attendees, promoting the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative.

The event continued with students from Gyan Vikash Academy presenting patriotic songs and poems that stirred feelings of pride and patriotism. The teaching staff conducted enlightening lectures about freedom fighters, fostering a deeper understanding of the nation’s history. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks and the distribution of sweets to all attending students.

The gathering saw a total of 126 participants, including 15 ex-servicemen from Assam Rifles, 86 students from Gyan Vikas Academy, and 25 local residents.
