Assam Rifles initiates tree plantation drive

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 30: Assam Rifles, operating under HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), orchestrated a tree plantation drive as part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative. The drive was aimed at fostering environmental consciousness among school students and NCC Cadets and was conducted at Rangachakua Higher Secondary School in the northern region of Jamugurihat on Monday, according to a press release. The event saw vibrant participation from students and NCC cadets, creating a positive impact on the local environment.

A brief lecture was delivered during the event, underscoring the importance of tree planting in preserving the environment and addressing climate change. A diverse range of native tree saplings were distributed among the participants. Meticulously chosen plantation sites ensured the maximum ecological benefit. All attendees actively participated in the tree planting process, contributing to the restoration of the region’s green cover. In total, 230 saplings of various indigenous trees were planted during the drive.

The school administration wholeheartedly supported the event, recognising its significance in conserving the environment for future generations. Assam Rifles troops expressed their gratitude to all participants, highlighting the collaborative endeavour to counter deforestation and promote sustainable practices. The event enjoyed the participation of 70 students, 85 NCC cadets, three teachers, and a strong sense of enthusiasm.
