Guwahati, Feb 7: The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam on Wednesday, apprehended Arafat Alom Bora, Lat Mandal of Naduar Revenue Circle, Sootea, Biswanath district, for accepting a bribe in his office.
The incident occurred during a correction and update process in land records. A complaint against Bora was previously lodged with the Directorate, accusing him of demanding a Rs. 5,000 bribe from the complainant.
The complainant, refusing to pay, sought legal action against Bora. In response, the Directorate set a trap in Bora’s office, where he was captured accepting Rs. 2,000 of the demanded bribe.
The bribe money was seized from Bora in the presence of independent witnesses. A case has been registered against Bora at the ACB Police Station on February 7, 2024, under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
Bora was arrested after sufficient evidence was found against him. In a related action, Vigilance & Anti-Corruption officers conducted a raid at Bora’s residence in Hatkhowapara, Azara, in the Kamrup Metro district.
