TEZPUR, Feb 7: In a bid to eradicate regular accidents across the state, the state government’s Road and Transport department is carrying out a month-long programme called ‘Road Safety Month’ from January 15, continuing until February 14. As part of the programme, the department held an awareness programme among students at Government Boys Higher Secondary School here on Wednesday. The awareness programme, held under the aegis of the school’s principal, Rinjumani Borah Neog, was attended by a host of officials from the district administration office of the district transport officer, Sonitpur, among others. Addressing the gathering, MVI Padmalochan Hazarika spoke on the significance of the programme.
Urging all concerned to obey traffic rules for the interest of decreasing accidents cases, the MVI also mentioned that, like in other parts of the state, awareness programmes and free eye screening tests have been organised at different public places to eradicate accident cases and create awareness among the common people. Enforcement officer Parag Baruah, in his speech, mentioned how the Transport Department is taking initiative in controlling rapidly growing accident cases in the district.
Later, in her presidential speech, the principal of the school, Rinjumani Neog Borah, expressed her gratitude towards the department for organising such a beneficial programme among the student community. She said that it would support all concerned to know how to sincerely ride/drive on the busy roads, saving one’s life. During the programme, officials from the Transport Department replied to the queries on different motor vehicle act-related issues raised by the students.
