BTR Govt signs MoU with NTPC Salakati to augment digital literacy

5 Bodoland Digital Literacy and Counselling Centers to be set up across BTR

KOKRAJHAR, March 6: In yet another milestone, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the government of Bodoland Territorial Region and National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) Salakati to extend support in establishment of five Bodoland Digital Literacy and Counselling Centers across the Bodoland region.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at BTC Secretariat conference hall, Bodofa.Nwgwr in Kokrajhar on Tuesday and was presided over by Pramod Boro, the chief executive member of BTR amidst the presence of officials from the government of BTR and NTPC Salakati, Kokrajhar.

Speaking on the occasion, CEM Boro said, “The BTR government is now embarking on a journey of partnerships with notable civil society organisations (CSOs) and foundations to augment social development in the region.”

In this regard, he lauded the commitment of the NTPC Salakati to extend support in establishment of five Bodoland Digital Literacy & Counselling Centers across the BTR districts and assured that these centers will greatly benefit the children, college going students, job-seekers, SHGs, farmers and budding entrepreneurs by providing them tailor-made and cutting-edge hands-on training.

Five fully-equipped Bodoland Digital Literacy & Counselling Centers will be established in five places of BTR, which included Baksa Degree College at Baganpara, in Baksa; Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Degree College at Orang in Udalguri, Bengtol College at Chirang; Zamduar College at Soraibil in Kokrajhar and Tamulpur College in Tamulpur. These projects seek to address, on a priority basis, the multi-dimensional digital and career-oriented skilling needs of school children and youth, job-seekers and farmers in the light of post-conflict revitalization programme of systems, institutions and communities in BTR.  These centers intend to fill up the void of access and availability of digital skilling and hands-on training needs.

Attending the MoU signing ceremony, executive director of NTPC-Salakati, Karunakar Das expressed his happiness and delight that the collaborative efforts of BTR Government and NTPC Salakati have resulted in a meaningful partnership.

“I am sure that the joint-activities within the purview of the MoU will reap positive results for the people of BTR,” he said.

“These centres are in addition to the establishment of Bodoland Knowledge Centers (across 420 VCDCs of BTR), Bodoland Science Mission and the establishment of Bodoland Digital Libraries in schools.

The existing efforts of the BTR government to transform the educational landscape of BTR, under the visionary leadership of Pramod Boro, are on a right footing to make the region a hub of educational excellence in the coming days,” expressed the principal secretary of BTR government, Akash Deep, while speaking on the occasion.

The event was also attended by executive members of BTR, Reo Reoa Narzihary and Wilson Hansda, education secretary, Amar Jyoti Barman, director of education, JP Brahma, principals of the five colleges where the projects would be established, AGM-HR of NTPC, Ongkar Nath and representatives of the implementing agencies NEFT and AGRA.
