SILCHAR, July 2: Cachar district has been honoured with the prestigious award for excellence in various aspects of health services among the 33 districts of the state. The recognition came during the recent health service festival, organised according to the guidelines of the education department’s Gunotsav.

Cachar has achieved the highest number of ‘A’ grades, with 22 government hospitals in the state receiving this distinction in the assessment conducted during the festival. Nalbari district secured the second position, with 22 hospitals also attaining seats of excellence. However, in terms of numbers, Cachar district’s position far exceeds that of Nalbari district, which ranks 39th in terms of percentage. Cachar district boasts a remarkable 52 percent of ‘A’ grade hospitals. Morigaon district stands third on the list, with 11 hospitals receiving an ‘A’ grade and a percentage of 27.

Upon the publication of the results on chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s dashboard, a wave of excitement swept through the administrative and health departments of Cachar district. Deputy commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha extended warm congratulations to everyone involved in this success, particularly the eight health units of the district, Satindra Mohan Dev Memorial Civil Hospital (District Hospital), doctors in the Silchar urban area, and officials and workers at various levels. DC Jha urged everyone to maintain this upward trajectory and congratulated additional deputy commissioner (health) Yubraj Borthakur, branch officer and executive magistrate Jonali Devi, joint director of health Dr Ashutosh Barman, DPM NHM Rahul Ghosh, and other departmental officials for their contributions, while also highlighting the importance of maintaining consistency in achieving excellence.
