CEM Pramod Boro chairs meeting to address human-elephant conflict

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 27: In a proactive move towards wildlife conservation and human-wildlife conflict resolution, a consultation meeting on human-elephant conflict was convened at the Tamulpur district commissioner’s office. The meeting, aimed at finding sustainable solutions to mitigate human-elephant conflicts, was organised by the department of Environment & Forest, government of Bodoland Territorial Region, in collaboration with wildlife conservation NGOs and civil society organisations of the region.

Chaired by Pramod Boro, the chief executive member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Region, the meeting brought together representatives from various organisations, including WWF, Aranyak, WTI, Manas Maozigendri Ecotourism Society, Manas Ever Welfare Society, Manas Conservation Society, Manas Daodhara Dwijing Eco-park Society, Goibari Soibhadri Foundation, and Indo Bhutan Border Ecotourism Society.

CEM Boro emphasised the significance of the meeting and its focus on addressing the human-elephant conflict that has been prevalent in the Bodoland region. He highlighted the vital role that elephants play in maintaining the ecological balance of the region, particularly in Bodoland Territorial Region. Boro also showcased the proactive measures taken by the BTR government to address this pressing issue.

The meeting delved into discussions to identify innovative and sustainable solutions to mitigate human-elephant conflicts while ensuring the creation of safe zones for elephants and other wildlife. The ultimate aim is to transform Bodoland Territorial Region into an elephant-friendly zone that ensures the well-being of both communities and wildlife.

Civil society organisations welcomed the initiative led by CEM Pramod Boro and expressed their support for efforts aimed at ending the human-elephant conflict situation in the Bodoland region. They pledged their cooperation and partnership in future endeavours focused on environmental conservation and sustainable coexistence.

Key attendees of the meeting included BTR executive members Daobaisa Boro, Sanjit Tanti, and MLA Jolen Daimary, reflecting the collective commitment towards addressing the critical issue of human-elephant conflict and fostering harmony between communities and wildlife.
