BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 7: A four-day closing ceremony of the centenary celebration of Jamuguri HSS, concluded on Tuesday with Padma Hazarika, president of the celebration committee in the chair.
The closing and the ‘open and book release session’ of the four-day programme was held in the school premises.
Addressing the open session as a chief guest Pijush Hazarika state cabinet minister for Information, Public Relations, Printing etc said, “education makes a man complete. A state or nation can prosper only if every citizen of it is educated”.
He appealed to all the students to be honest, sincere and dedicated towards their studies, family and for the nation.
He further added that each student should be accountable to their parents, teachers and to one whom they respect.
Earlier to this minister Hazarika released a research based Assamese book Brihattar Jamugurihat Anchalor Sanskritik Andolanar Ruprekha edited by Surajit Choudhuri, Nitumani Bora and Bikash Bora.
Minister Hazarika announced a sum of Rs 20 lakh for infrastructure development of the school.
The state cabinet minister also ventured the responsibility of publishing all the books relating to the closing ceremony of the centenary celebration.
The open session was attended by Ganesh Limbu, MLA Barchala LAC, Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, principal of Biswanath College, Prabhat Das, inspector of school, Sonitpur, Janardan Bhuyan, former principal of the school besides other dignitaries.
Assamese singer Dikshu performed a musical concert as a part of cultural night of the closing session.
The first day programme began on January 4 with Dr Arupa Patangiya Kalita releasing the souvenir of Jamuguri HSS.
Addressing the session eminent writer Dr Patangiya said, “we must honour our mother tongue and put our efforts together in uplifting the Assamese medium schools. If we dishonour our mother tongue then it will become weak and we will lose our culture, heritage and self-identity”.
The souvenir release function was held with Nitya Borah, former editor of Asomiya Pratidin in the chair.
The session was addressed by eminent science writer Dr Khiradhar Baruah who became nostalgic remembering his school days.
Earlier to this, the centenary celebration was formally inaugurated by Sootea MLA cum president of the centenary celebration committee Padma Hazarika by hoisting the flag.
The multi-community cultural procession was inaugurated by Pabitra Margherita, union minister of state.
Inaugurating the cultural procession, the union minister announced a financial grant of Rs 8 crore for infrastructure development of the school.
The second day of the centenary celebration of Jamuguri HSS witnessed a handsome turn out of alumni.
The get-together was held with Purneswar Nath, Dr Pranjit Hazarika and Amarjyoti Borthakur in the chair.
The third day programme covered a panel discussion.
Dr Denedra Chandra Baruah, professor of the Energy department of Tezpur University addressed the session as a panelist.
The panel discussion held at Minati Devi Memorial Hall was chaired by Dr Ramesh Chandra Deka, VC, Cotton University.
The panel discussion was held on the topic ‘NEP 2020 and Professional education’.
Another panelist Dr Pranjal Budagohain, assistant professor of Dibrugarh University said that knowledge gained from only from the textbooks and degrees gained from universities which don’t have applicability is valueless.
“We must have professional skills and for that we have to acquire practical knowledge”, he said.
He remarked that the NEP provides ample scope in this regard.
The event was attended by Sootea MLA cum president of the reception committee Padma Hazarika, former teachers, teachers from various educational institutions, students.
All the proceedings of the panel discussion were conducted by Basav Bhuyan, followed by a prize distribution ceremony.
