The distribution, spearheaded by the Margherita Co-District administration, was part of the ongoing disaster management programme aimed at supporting vulnerable communities.

The initiative gained momentum due to the persistent efforts of Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, who ensured that the families, previously excluded from compensation, were provided with aid, as these families had initially faced challenges in receiving assistance from the disaster management department due to their residence on land owned by A.R.&T Company Ltd Margherita.

The cheque distribution ceremony witnessed participation from key officials, including Parikshit Thoudam Margherita Co-District Commissioner, Gyan Jyoti Dutta Margherita, circle officer, Anand Kumar Sharma chairman of Margherita Municipal Board and representatives from the affected families.

Breifing media persons at the event, Gyan Jyoti Dutta Margherita, circle officer said that under Margherita Municipal Board total of 170 families residing at the premises of AR& T Company ltd, who were affected by floods in the year 2024 were given financial assistance in the form cheques and this is possible due to Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma and Tinsukia district commissioner Swapneel Paul’s persistent efforts for which a total of 170 families received cheques.
