TEZPUR, July 17: Dhekiajuli Mahkuma Nagarik Mancha has once again raised its voice in demand for a new railway line in the southern part of NH-15. A team from the organisation met central DoNER minister Jyotiraditya Scindia at his government residence on Monday and highlighted the need for a new railway line connecting Tezpur to Guwahati via Bihaguri, Thelamara, Bagaribari, Borsola, Dalgaon, Kharupetia, Mangaldai, Sipajhar, and Agyathuri. This route would enhance connectivity for nearly twenty lakh people in the area. The team urged the minister to take necessary steps to fulfill this long standing demand and submitted a memorandum on behalf of the organisation.
The team also visited the government residence of central railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the chairman of the Railway Board, submitting a memorandum requesting the new railway line. The memorandum, signed by the office bearers of the organisation, highlights that the southern part of NH-15 in Sonitpur and Darrang districts lacks railway connectivity to the state capital of Guwahati. The existing highway fails to provide adequate transportation services and efficient communication for most residents in the area. Speaking to the media, Ripen Rabha and Narayan Phayel, secretary and organising secretary of the organisation, expressed hope that the longstanding rural communication issue would be resolved with a positive response from the central government.
Additionally, the team met with MP and deputy leader of the Opposition Gaurav Gogoi, MP Birendra Prasad Baishya, and central minister Sarbananda Sonowal, requesting their intervention to fulfill the demands of Dhekiajuli Mahkuma Nagarik Mancha.
