DIBRUGARH, Sept 3: Dibrugarh Airport, situated in Mohanbari, has been granted approval by the director general of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to restore the runway 05 threshold and the declared distances of the runway.

The threshold had previously been displaced by 150 meters to facilitate the completion of the runway merging project, which had resulted in the withdrawal of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) facility. With the completion of the extended runway merging, the original runway length of 1830 meters will be reinstated, and the ILS facility will be made operational once again.

It’s worth noting that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of providing a new and upgraded ILS facility, corresponding to a runway length of 2290 meters, for which most of the infrastructure work has already been completed. The installation, testing, optimisation, and commissioning of this system are expected to be finalised by March 2024. After this, the extended runway length of 2290 meters will be operational, along with the new ILS and Category I approach lighting system.

Following a meeting with stakeholders, the Airport Authority of India, Dibrugarh, has decided to proceed with the restoration of runway 05 on the night between Monday, September 4, and Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
