DIBRUGARH, Nov 16: The Centre for Social Work, Dibrugarh University, successfully conducted a five-day workshop on Theatre of the Oppressed for third-semester Social Work students.
This annual program, now in its fourth year, serves as an introductory course, with an advanced module planned for the subsequent semester.
The workshop was led by Shobha Raghavan, a Bangalore-based development consultant and certified Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) facilitator with over 20 years of experience.
A seasoned practitioner, Shobha has worked extensively in areas such as social justice, human rights, and community empowerment. Her innovative use of TO techniques has addressed critical issues like gender-based violence, access to natural resources, and community resilience, making her a highly respected figure in the field.
During the workshop, students learned essential skills and competencies to integrate TO as a tool for social change.
Through interactive sessions, Shobha shared her expertise, emphasising the importance of creative expression in fostering dialogue and addressing social issues.
The workshop highlighted Dibrugarh University’s commitment to experiential learning and its mission to prepare socially responsible professionals capable of driving meaningful change.
The initiative continues to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications, empowering students to use innovative approaches in their future endeavors.
