He said this while addressing a gathering at the Busu festival celebrations organised by the Greater Guwahati Dimacha Kachari Association at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on Sunday.

In his address, the chief minister emphasised the significance of preserving the cultural identity of the Indian subcontinent, particularly highlighting the integral role of agriculture and nature.

He praised the Busu festival, a cherished tradition among the Dimasa people, as a source of inspiration for farmers, marking the harvest season.

“The Busu festival, also known as the Bisu festival, stands as a cornerstone of Dimasa culture, encapsulating the essence of their lifestyle and traditions. It reflects the tribe’s rich heritage in weaving, food, and agriculture,” remarked Sarma.

Acknowledging the cultural significance of the Baidima dance, Sarma underscored its role in the Dimacha Kachari community’s harvest festivities. The festival, he explained, includes rituals like offering bhog to Shiva Gamabhi, symbolizing prayers for happiness and prosperity throughout the year.

Sarma stressed the importance of passing down folk traditions and beliefs to future generations, emphasising the timeless essence of Dimasa heritage. He urged the community to uphold their ancient religion, culture, costumes, and arts to ensure their continued existence.

Highlighting the educational progress within the Dimasa community, Sarma encouraged youths to embrace both Assamese and their native language. He also called upon educated Dimasa individuals to raise awareness on societal issues like preventing child marriage.

The event witnessed the presence of energy minister Nandita Garlocha, Dimasa Sahitya Sabha president Ramesh Thaosen, Greater Guwahati Dimacha Kachari Association president Jayshree Khercha, and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council member Ratan Jambhosa, among others.
