DLSA, Jorhat highlights rights and schemes of women tea garden workers

Free legal aid services provided by the DLSA explained

JORHAT, April 30: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jorhat, on Tuesday organised an awareness programme on the rights and schemes of the women tea garden workers and maintenance of their health and hygiene was held at Cinnamara Tea Estate here.

The programme was organised to commemorate May Day which is observed worldwide on May 1 every year.

ADLSA official informed that addressing the women workers of the garden in the stand-up meeting at pluckers weighing point of the tea garden DLSA (Jorhat) secretary-cum-judicial officer Devojyoti Bhuyan elaborated about the protection and benefits provided to the women workers under different legislations and schemes.

He also explained about the free legal aid services provided by the DLSA to needy people seeking justice at different levels.

Dr Malita Rajkonwar,  senior medical officer, Bagchung PHC, in her address sensitised the women workers about various precautionary measures to be taken in both pre and post natal stage for their health and urged everyone to maintain proper hygiene to avert the commonly found disease in the tea estates.

The meeting was also attended by Asit Baran Choudhury, manager, Cinnamara Tea Estate who too spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, the district and sessions judge (Jorhat), P Das, who is the chairman, DLSA, Jorhat, on Monday (April 29) inaugurated a pure drinking watet system installed at the Children’s Home, Jorhat. The Manthan Ladies Club, Jorhat, has donated the pure drinking water system.

P Das, speaking at the function organized on the ocassion, urged everyone to be sensitive about child rights and their protection while applauding the gesture of the Manthan Ladies Club. He observed that such initiatives provides opportunity to work together for the children in need of care and protection.

The programme was attended by DLSA secretary-cum judicial officer Devojyoti Bhuyan and district child protection officer Rizwana Hazarika and members of the Manthan Ladies Club, Jorhat along with the officials of the children home.
