GUWAHATI, March 6: Assam police can now boast of a new guest house amidst the picturesque Kohora range of the Kaziranga National Park in Golaghat district.
Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a home to many species of birds, plants and flowers. These include the world famous rhino, tigers, elephants, wild buffaloes, deer among others. High profile individuals including the President, Prime Minister and many high ranking government officials come to this heritage site for various government programmes. People’s representatives from foreign countries are also guests to enjoy the beauty of this beautiful creation of nature.
It is said that behind every initiative, big or small, there is a thoughtful plan of a visionary, enterprising and pioneering person. On the other hand, many like-minded individuals contribute to its effective implementation. Many impossible tasks are achieved with the generosity and co-operation of these groups. One such example is the well-planned Assam Police Guest House at Kohora in Kaziranga.
Way back in 2018, whether be it monitoring law and order situation or the arrival of high profile guests or other matters, a need for a government residence was mostly felt. Present director of information and public relations, Manabendra Dev Ray, was stationed as superintendent of police in Golaghat at that time. This officer, who was spearheading improvements with new ideas every day, came up with the dream of making such a guesthouse a reality.
Without any second thought he began brainstorming and initiating measures top construct a guest house in the national park.
First came the issue of land where the guest house was to be built. Fortunately, his predecessor, former superintendent of police PP Singh had already allocated a plot of 7 katha government land near Hatikhuli Tea Eastate. Later, the Hatikhuli Tea Estate authorities also released some land for this beautiful guest house. The current special director general of police (DGP) of Assam, Harmit Singh, assisted in this regard. A large fund is required to build a state-of-the-art guest house to suit the wishes and circumstances. But the first condition for accomplishing anything is sincere desire. And Roy was conscious of this. In addition to government funds, he received funds under social responsibility funds from NRL, ONGC etc.
The guest house was completed by Manbendra Dev Ray during his tenure in Golaghat with assistance from the Golaghat Police, and financial assistance and cooperation of the local people. He completed the construction of the guesthouse within six months without hesitation to commute twice a day to Kohora, 75 km from Golaghat. The result was a testament to his sincere efforts, goodwill and determination.
This destination became the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, where tranquility and serenity soothes the soul. That is perhaps the reason why two of the country’s Presidents, Ram Nath Kovind and Dauphin Murmu, as well as many top officials including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, have spent their nights at this guest house in peace and enjoyed the beauty of Kaziranga. The current Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, also rested at the guesthouse.
The building is built with state-of-the-art facilities in a beautiful natural environment and has been upgraded to the level of a state guest house. Now all eyes are on this guest house as accomodation has been arranged for the country’s efficient and visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit to Assam. The Prime Minister will spend one night at the guest house and enjoy the natural beauty of Kaziranga.
This news has delighted the people as well as one person in particular- Manbendra Dev Ray. The enthusiastic officer is very satisfied with the construction of the guest house which has had a far-reaching impact on his career. The fruits of hard work are always sweet. The news of the success of the police guest house, which shines in the middle of the Hatikhuli Tea Estate, has brought immense peace to the officer. This is the joy of receiving the rewards of good deeds, which will motivate him to take more welfare steps in the coming days.
