Former librarian passes away

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Feb 18: Suren Kalita, a revered resident of Sesa Satra and former librarian of THB College, breathed his last on Sunday at his residence, succumbing to old age-related ailments. He was 78 years old. Kalita, a well-known figure in the Jamugurihat area, had deep-rooted associations with numerous socio-cultural organisations in the greater Jamugurihat region. He held the esteemed position of founder librarian at THB College and retired as head librarian in 2005.

The news of his demise has enveloped Jamugurihat in sorrow. Kalita was admired and respected by many for his contributions to education and culture in the community. He is survived by his daughter, Uddipana Kalita, a scientist who was part of the Chandrayaan II mission, a son, and a large circle of relatives.

Various organisations and individuals, including THB College, Bapuji Bhawan Natya Samaj, Baresohoriya Bhaona Committee, Naduar Press Club, Jamuguri branch of Sahitya Sanmilani, Natun Sahitya Parishad, and All Jamuguri Students’ Union, among others, have come forward to pay heartfelt tributes to Suren Kalita, recognising his invaluable contributions to society.
