HAFLONG, Sept 19: In a bid to promote a deeper connection to one’s homeland, an awareness program titled ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ was recently organised at the District Library Auditorium in Haflong. Spearheaded by the Dima Hasao district administration, this unique initiative, supported by the central government, aimed to engage the local community.
State minister for Power, Sports & Youth Affairs, Nandita Gorlosa, graced the occasion as the chief guest, accompanied by district commissioner Simanta Kr Das, ACS, SP Mayank Kumar, IPS, SDO(C) Meganjoy Thaosen, ACS, and deputy secretary Rabecca Changsan, ACS, representing DHAC.
Minister Nandita Gorlosa, in her address, emphasised the significance of the program, stressing the importance of an emotional connection between individuals and their homeland. She outlined the objectives and plans for ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh,’ which included a unique campaign scheduled from September 20 to 30, 2023. During this campaign, soil would be collected from every household in the district’s villages, transported to the block, and subsequently forwarded to Guwahati and then to Delhi.
ADC Deepmala Goala, ACS, delivered a welcome speech and presented a PowerPoint overview of ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ and ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’. A video message from chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was also screened, underscoring the theme ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’.
The event witnessed the presence of gaon buras, the Apex body, senior citizens, and various officials, all coming together to support this initiative aimed at strengthening the bond between the people and their homeland.
