GUWAHATI, Sept 10: In a significant drug bust, authorities in Guwahati have arrested four individuals found in possession of heroin valued at over Rs 2 crore. The operation was carried out by a team from the Jorabat outpost under the Basistha police station, acting on a credible tip-off.
On the eastern entry point to Guwahati city, a check-post was established, and during a thorough vehicle inspection, 251.2 grams of heroin were discovered in a car. In the early hours of Sunday, the four occupants of the vehicle were apprehended by law enforcement.
Sharing the news on social media, Guwahati Police on Sunday said, “An EGPD team from Jorabat OP of Basistha PS busted a gang of drug traffickers after it arrested 4 thugs – Prem Gogoi of 13 Mile, Bhaskarjyoti Bori of Silapathar, Majun Umbang of Kulajan & Jhon Patir of Silapathar – along with 21 soap boxes containing suspected heroin weighing 251.2 gms.”
In addition to the substantial quantity of heroin, the authorities also seized six mobile phones and Rs 1.16 lakh in cash from the individuals. An ongoing investigation is underway to further delve into the matter.
