GUWAHATI, Jan 3: Assam Police on Wednesday seized heroin worth around Rs 4.8 crore and apprehended two drug peddlers from Cachar district, said, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sarma informed that the Cachar District Police carried out an operation against the transportation of narcotic substances from a neighbouring state.
The police team recovered 600 grams of heroin from the possession of two persons, he said.
“Based on credible information, @cacharpolice conducted a special operation against the transportation of narcotic substances from a neighbouring state and recovered 600 gms of suspected heroin. Two persons have been apprehended in this connection. Well done @assampolice,” Sarma wrote on micro-blogging site X.
A senior official said the total value of the seized drugs will be nearly Rs 4.8 crore.
Recently, in a significant operation against the drug menace, the police in Karbi Anglong destroyed drugs worth over Rs 27 crore.
The narcotics, including 12.550 kg of heroin, 189.35 kg of ganja, 2.8 kg of morphine, and 2098 tablets, worth Rs 27,55,16,500 were meticulously burned in an open area at 9 Mile Diphu-Manja road.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of key officials, including superintendent of police (SP), Karbi Anglong, Sanjib Kumar Saikia; ADC, Chandan Burgohain; 20 Bn CRPF commandants, Swarn Singh; additional SP (Crime), Nayanmoni Burman, and others.
