International Human Rights Day celebrated in Margherita

Margherita, Dec 10: International Human Rights Day was celebrated at Margherita Block conference hall on Saturday under the initiative of Indian Red Cross Society Margherita sub district where Dr. Baran Deb, head of the Department of Political Affairs, Dibrugarh University and Phani Bhushan Sharma associate Professor of Tinsukia Law College were present as chief guest where they gave a detailed explanation on the theme of equal status, freedom and justice for all.

The meeting was presided over by Preeti Kumari, IAS, sub divisional officer(civil) Margherita and president of Indian Red Cross Society Margherita district sub branch where the purpose of the meeting was explained by Pabitra Borgohain, general secretary of Indian Red Cross Society, Margherita district sub-branch.

Moreover, at Lekhapani Police Station, village defence party in collaboration with Children Friends Club, Margherita organised International Human Rights Day where an awareness meeting was held on the topic, ‘Human rights of children, differently abled and the elderly persons.’ Robin Raja, a prominent social activist, was the keynote speaker at the meeting.

Abdul Alim executive member of Margherita Journalists Association was felicitated for his immense contributions towards society by Children’s Friends Club, Margherita.

An awareness meeting was held where Bikash Baruah, deputy advisor of Margherita sub-divisional village defence party, Lekhapani Police Station Committee president Ananta Payeng, Lekhapani Police Station officer in-charge Arup Baishya, circle organisers of village defence party Bhuban Hazarika and Luckyma Mech Karmakar, social activist Hemanta Buragohain, Children Friends Club, Margherita president Pappu Sah among other distinguished persons of Lekhapani area were present.

Margaret Memorial High School, Bargolai also organised International Human Rights Day where poster making and speech competition on human rights were held.
