SIVASAGAR, Sept 19: To mark International Snakebite Awareness Day, on Tuesday, the District Surveillance Unit, IDSP (Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme), Sivasagar, organised an awareness meeting at Khemka Matri Sadan, Doulmukh Chariali, Sivasagar. The meeting was led by Dr Gayatri Senapati, the district surveillance officer, along with other officials from the District Surveillance Unit, district media experts, and medical professionals.
During the meeting, Dr Gayatri Senapati provided detailed information on the importance of snakebite awareness, the protocol for treating snake bites, and the steps to administer first aid at home before seeking hospital treatment. She emphasised the importance of taking snakebite victims to government hospitals and other healthcare institutions like the Civil Hospital, Demow Model Hospital, Amguri Community Health Center (CHC), and Ligiripukhuri Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital (SDCH), where Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) is readily available. Dr Senapati also mentioned that other healthcare institutions will soon be equipped with ASV to ensure that snakebite victims do not have to travel long distances for treatment. She urged people to rely on scientific methods rather than superstitions when treating snakebite victims.
