DIPHU, Feb 17: Enhancing the festive spirit of the 51st Karbi Youth Festival (KYF), ‘The Hunger’ group, in collaboration with the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS), The Heavy Squad Gym, and Arni Keme Production, hosted Jongboho 3.0—a boiled egg-eating competition—at Hemphu Mukrang Ground in Taralangso on Monday.

The competition was highly engaging, attracting over 31 participants, including one woman, who attempted to eat as many eggs as possible within the given time. According to the rules, competitors had 30 seconds to eat as many boiled eggs as they could. Each contestant was provided with a bottle of water and a container filled with boiled eggs placed in front of them.

The participant who consumed the highest number of eggs was declared the winner.

Last year’s winner, Dhonsing Teron of Ser Anglong, Diphu, successfully defended his title, winning for the second consecutive time. He took home a cash prize of ₹10,000 along with a certificate. The second prize went to Songja Bey of Rukasen, Diphu, who received ₹8,000 and a certificate, while the third prize was secured by Humson Teron of Rongklarbong, Diphu, earning him ₹6,000 and a certificate.

During the prize distribution ceremony, Surjo Hanse, one of the organisers from The Heavy Squad, expressed his enthusiasm for the competition.

“By organising such events, we are fostering excitement, adding to the festive atmosphere, and contributing to the overall promotion of KYF,” Hanse said, extending his gratitude to Arni Keme Production for sponsoring the event.

Roton Senar, president of The Hunger group, announced that the competition would be held annually as part of KYF’s entertainment lineup.

Meanwhile, Gargya Toyota, Nagaon, partnered with KYF to showcase its vehicles at the festival from February 15 to 16 at Taralangso. This collaboration aims to promote Toyota cars while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Karbi community in Assam. This marks the second consecutive year that Gargya Toyota has participated in the event.

Kirak Jyoti Pator, a representative from Gargya Toyota, highlighted the company’s enthusiasm for being part of KYF.

“We are delighted to collaborate with KYF to promote our brand while celebrating the vibrant culture and traditions of the Karbi tribe,” Pator said.

A range of Toyota models, including the Glanza, Taisor, Hyryder, Rumion, Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Hilux, Fortuner, and Camry, were displayed for demonstration and inquiries. The company also offered exclusive discounts on all Toyota vehicles, spot valuation and exchange facilities, advance booking options, financing services, on-road funding, and zero down payment options.
