Succour for Tipali villagers announced

DONGKAMUKAM, Dec 3: A delegation of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) led by the chief executive member (CEM) of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang held an interactive session with the public in Tipali, one of the remotest villages in West Karbi Anglong under Amri Member of Autonomous Council (MAC). Tipali is 100 kms off Dongkamukam.
Addressing the villagers of Tipali, which is yet to be electrified along with the lack of a health centre, potable water and road connectivity, Ronghang said that the team had come to know about the grievances and requirements of the villagers.
“I saw several thatched houses and I shall provide Rs 5000 and three bundles of roofing sheets to each family for the construction of a house. Solar lights will be installed and community fishery will be started by the fishery department,” he said.
He further said, “By March 2023 a school will be constructed in the village. A road will also be constructed to Tipali. Last year a polling station was set-up for the KAAC election. I will discuss with the appropriate authority for setting up polling stations for Parliamentary and Assembly elections. There are 75 houses and each house will be provided with horticultural plants, goat proof fencing.”
The villagers of Tipali submitted a memorandum to the CEM of KAAC for electrification of villages from Wanpali to Tipali comprising Tipali, Umseter, Padengdalai and Tarikhunji, construction of border road from Umswai to Amur Falcon birds migration site via Tikrum, Tipali and Umseter; construction of road from Umat Mushalding to Tipali via Patengtali; construction of RCC bridge at Tipali village over Umhi river; construction of public fishery under Amrit Sarovar Scheme at Tipali and construction of school building, medical sub-centre, Jal Jeevan Mission, village playground and open stage, mobile tower and polling station at Tipali.
It is alleged that the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited has started to send bills for electricity for which a connection is yet to be made.
The local MAC and executive member (EM) of KAAC, D Uphing Maslai said that the village of the bordering area of Assam-Meghalaya is prone to illegal timber logging by miscreants from Meghalaya. He also said that due to deforestation, the flora and fauna of the region is also being destroyed. He further added that a road has been constructed at Tipali by the government of Meghalaya. He said that the Khasis of Meghalaya have an annual hunting festival and they enter the forest in West Karbi Anglong to hunt on such occasions.
MP Horensing Bey promised to construct an open stage and village playground at Tipali. MLA of Baithalangso, Rupsing Teron asked the villagers of both Meghalaya and Assam to respect each other’s territory. He also urged the Khasis to stop the felling of trees inside the forest of West Karbi Anglong.
