KAMA releases hornbill during annual trekking

DIPHU, Dec 1: The Karbi Anglong Mountaineering Association (KAMA) during their annual Singhason trekking release a young hornbill bird (Vo Terang in Karbi dialect), a rare species of bird found in Singhason Hill, which was rescued by the Forest staff of Longnit Account Beat (Central Range).
The KAMA team of 10 members, boys and girls, were on a three-day annual trekking to Singhason from Longnit to Singhason peak. The team was led by Everester and president, KAMA, Khorsing Terang and general secretary, Edward Rongchaicho.
The team started trekking on November 28 from Diphu and on reaching Longnit, the Beat officer of Longnit Account Beat (Central Range), Sarpo Engti Kathar handed the young hornbill bird, rescued by the Forest staff, to the KAMA team to be released in Singhason hills. Kathar is also a senior member of KAMA.
The bird was handed over to KAMA president, Terang, where the KAMA team took proper care of the bird before being released. The team stayed at Langbirik Athoi Rongpi Ronghang village for the night on November 28.
On November 29, the next day, at 11 am, they continued their climb over the Singhason range and reached the summit camp and spent the night in the jungle. At the summit camp, the KAMA team after feeding the bird released the hornbill to be free in nature again.
Terang said, “The young hornbill bird rescued by the Forest staff of Longnit Beat was handed over to us. KAMA is always connected with nature and the Forest department. During our trek we took proper care of the bird and at the summit camp we released the hornbill to be with nature again.”
On November 30, the team reached the peak of the Singhason Hills at 7 am. Terang said that the clouds were clear and the mighty Himalayan range was visible in the morning. By 11 am the team started their climb down to reach the summit camp and Langbirik Athoi and at Longnit.
