Karbi Anglong Celebrates 77th I-Day With Zeal

DIPHU, Aug 16: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Diphu Government Boys Higher Secondary Playground on Tuesday. The event saw the hoisting of the national flag by the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang.

In his address, Ronghang highlighted the significant developments undertaken by KAAC and the state government in the region.

Reflecting on the historical significance of the day, Ronghang expressed deep respect and gratitude towards the freedom fighters who made immense sacrifices for the nation’s independence.

He praised leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bhagat Singh, and others who played pivotal roles in securing India’s freedom.

Ronghang spoke on the rapid development taking place in Karbi Anglong. He highlighted the establishment of modern infrastructure including roads, flyovers, airports, and the ongoing redevelopment of Diphu Railway station as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He revealed that this station is one of the 32 railway stations in Assam earmarked for modernisation at a cost of Rs 922 crore.

Ronghang noted that on May 4, 2023, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated projects worth over Rs 2,500 crore in Karbi Anglong. These encompassed crucial sectors such as roads, bridges, flyovers, drinking water projects, healthcare facilities, Anganwadi centers, and administrative infrastructure. He highlighted the progress in reaching households with clean drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The CEM also shared upcoming plans including the establishment of educational institutions like BSc Nursing College, Veterinary College, Agriculture College, and Engineering College. He emphasised the focus on education by announcing the construction of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya Schools and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Schools in various locations.

During the celebration, the CEM inspected the guard of honour presented by Assam Police, Assam Police Battalion, Home Guard, and NCC contingents from different schools. The event showcased the participation of school students from various institutions in the march past.

To acknowledge excellence and dedication, the CEM, along with other dignitaries, distributed prizes and certificates to participating schools. The district administration also recognised the outstanding contributions of government employees, social workers, and progressive farmers.
