DIPHU, Jan 11: The Chief Executive Member’s (CEM’s) Open Interaction Programme kicked off from Phongbirik under Korkanthi Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency in Karbi Anglong district on Saturday.
The programme will touch on all 26 MAC constituencies, aiming to foster direct communication between the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the residents to provide a platform for understanding their needs, aspirations, and concerns.
The CEM, addressing the gathering, said, “Within one year road connectivity, potable water facility, and electricity will reach Korkanthi.”
Further, on the memorandum submitted by the villagers, the CEM said that KAAC would prepare plans and estimations for schemes.
“Development of these constituencies is always on the mind of team Karbi Anglong. We came here to know from you whether government welfare schemes are beneficial or not and to seek your support and cooperation and support in the best possible ways so we can develop our district. We assure you that all the grievances you put forward will be looked into,” the CEM assured the people.
Without naming the party, the CEM said there are leaders opposing the solar project and flyover setting up. They are opposing the development of the district.
The CEM also highlighted the issue with the setting up of the Sainik school at Samelangso saying the school was proposed at Langlokso, but the villagers rejected it. “If it was set up, there would have been rapid development in the area. But the golden opportunity was lost. Now Executive Member (EM), KAAC, Surjya Rongphar has come up with an idea to set up at Langvoku in his Borjan MAC constituency. By setting up the Sainik School there will be more development in Langvoku.”
Ronghang highlighted several schemes implemented for the development of the district. Among the schemes that have been implemented, the CEM said there are medical sub-centres at Lobonghat, Samelangso, Tekelangjun, a six bedded hospital at Belughat and a road connecting Dokmoka to Rongmongve, which is a shorter way to reach Kaziranga from Diphu.
More schools will be provincialised by KAAC in consultation with the State government, the CEM announced.
The interaction programme was attended by MP Amarsing Tisso; EMs; MLAs and EMs. principal secretary, KAAC, Mukul Kumar Saikia and district commissioner, Nirola Phangchopi.
