KSA Questions APHLC Secretary For Opposing Development

HT Bureau

DIPHU, Oct 09: President of the Karbi Students Association (KSA – Lumding Road), Thomson Rongpi on Monday questioned the call for boycott of KSA by the organizing secretary of All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC), Kursing Timung.

Timung has called for the boycott of KSA on the ground that the Association is supporting the setting up of Sainik School at Inghan Aphule, between Samelangso and Langlokso in Karbi Anglong district.

Addressing the media at the office of the Hills People Cultural Forum (HPCF), Rongpi questioned Timung as to what authority he has to boycott the KSA. He is misleading the villagers.

Timung took to social media in which he accused the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) of snatching land from villagers for the Sainik School of Rong Ar-e and Langlokso and KSA of supporting it.

Timung said there is sufficient forest land under KAAC. There is a professional grazing reserve or villagers grazing reserve land at Kheroni in West Karbi Anglong in which the school is set to be established.

He reasoned that the ST (H) reservation is only 7 % in the school and questioned the benefit it will bring to the villagers.

Rongpi said the school could not be set up by snatching away villagers’ land. The Chinthong Rongkhang Cooperative Farming Society has 3000 bighas of land and after proper discussion with the society members, the KAAC authority had agreed to donate the land for the setting up of the school.

The KSA president said, “Timung and his party always oppose any development taking place. He is a person who always finds fault with others. They (APHLC) are a reactionary force.”
