GUWAHATI, Oct 19: Laghu Udyog Bharati (North-East Region) under its ‘Gram Prakosth Program’ has undertaken a project to promote sculptural crafts by providing proper employment to local sculptural craftsmen, and to make their produce available for sale in different places of the region.
The earthen lamp distribution program was inaugurated by state Industries and Commerce minister, Bimal Bora in presence of Sangh Pracharak Guruprasad Medhi, Assam Finance Corporation president Vijay Gupta, ASIDC chairman Kishore Upadhyay and councillor Pramod Swamy.
The program started with the chanting of ‘Sangathan Mantar’ by Ravi Sureka, general secretary, LUB (NER) followed by a welcome address by Manoj Lundia, president of LUB.
Manoj Lundia said, “Laghu Udyog Bharti has been working in north-east for the last 7 years. It is an entrepreneurial organisation with the ideology to take care of the employees of the industry along with growth. We have also taken up the task of self-reliance.”
The earthen lamps were distributed from different chapters of LUB in Assam (Nagaon, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Tinsukia) & Meghalaya.
Minister Bora also spoke about the interests of the local artisans in his address. He said, “On the auspicious occasion of Kati Bihu, the launching of this event is in accordance with the theme of this festival of Assam for all around progress of society and nurturing of mother earth.”
Minister Bora distributed earthen lamps to guests and dignitaries present on the occasion and felicitated the artisans who have come from rural areas of Assam. Earlier, Arup Borpujari, secretary and in- charge of ‘Gram Prakosth Program’, LUB, said, “Last year, we had set a target of buying 25 thousand diyas from the local artisan. But due to the tremendous demand from different parts of the province, we bought one lakh from them and sent it to different branches of the province. This year the target has been set to buy 4 lakh diyas and to distribute it in different districts of Assam.”
Ashish Deorah, All India joint general secretary, LUB, proposed the vote of thanks.
