Legal Assistance On Offer For Illegally Detained Prisoners

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 9: The National Human Rights and Crime Control Bureau (NHRCCB) in collaboration with the Tinsukia District Legal Services Authority will provide legal assistance to prisoners facing difficulties in securing their release despite having received bail orders from the court.

As such a dedicated team of legal experts and social workers has been instituted to assess individual cases. The team after assessing the causes behind the failure to meet bail requirements would provide appropriate legal advice to such prisoners.

The Indian judiciary system follows a fundamental principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty. Bail provisions are granted to individuals accused of crimes to ensure their release from detention while the trial is pending.

However, there have been instances where prisoners are unjustly detained due to obstacles in fulfilling a bail bond or land document requirements.

Nishant Thard, the state President of NHRCCB said, “Bail provides a ray of hope for detainees, but many are unable to fulfill the bail requirements due to a lack of financial resources or unavailability of appropriate land documents. This violates their basic rights along with causing immense hardship to them and their families.”

Moreover, the NHRCCB and District Legal Services work towards identifying alternative solutions, such as community bonds or securing the assistance of non-profit organizations.

“Our team offers unjustly detained prisoner with the necessary financial support and assistance in obtaining the required land documents,” said Thard.

As a testament to the progressive spirit of the Indian judiciary system, the team of legal experts and social workers will work towards ensuring a fair and equitable society for all.

This initiative also aligns with the vision of the President of India, who emphasized on the need to uphold human rights and ensure justice for all citizens.

“This endeavor reflects the spirit of justice and compassion as envisioned by the President of India. It helps them in rejoining the society and actively participate in their defense during the trial,” he said.
