KOKRAJHAR, Dec 5: A court in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife.
Kokrajhar District and Session Judge Nirmali Talukdar found Bishnu Basumatary guilty of murdering his wife and sentenced him to life imprisonment under Section 302 IPC along with a fine of Rs 10,000.
Basumatary was also sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for concealment of evidence and giving false information about an offence, along with a fine of Rs 5,000.

Both the sentences will run concurrently.
The verdict was delivered in connection with a case registered at Serfanguri police station of the district.
Basumatary had killed his wife on July 31, 2022, and thrown her body into the Karbona River near their house. (PTI)
