MAAS marks 34th Foundation Day 

Event in Morigaon emphasises the need for impartial human rights activism

MORIGAON, Nov 3: “Women are the most vulnerable to all aspects of human rights violations related to war, terrorism, fundamentalism, and domestic violence, whether they are the families of victims or the family members of perpetrators,” said the chief advisor of MAAS, Bubumoni Goswami. The 34th Foundation Day of the Human Rights Struggle Committee (HRSC) was celebrated centrally at the Morigaon District Journalists’ Association hall, concluding on Saturday evening.

While inaugurating the seminar, prominent literary researcher Mileshwar Patar emphasised the need for organisations like MAAS to remain relevant in protesting against human rights violations and urged the organisation to adopt a clearer and more impartial stance. The seminar was chaired by MAAS publicity secretary Jitumoni Nath and attended by All Assam Lekhika Samaroh Samiti’s Morigaon president Reena Deka and Aideu Sandikoi Cultural Multipurpose Association president Reena Rani Saikia.

The opening ceremony was presided over by MAAS president Aditya Lahkar, with the welcome speech delivered by secretary general Lakhi Prasad Deka. Prominent poet and former MLA Harendra Bora, advocate Nekib Uddin Ahmed of Morigaon, MAAS secretary Raju Singh, Rubena Yasmin Ahmed, organising secretary Hareshwar Bora, Nagaon district chairman Budhen Bora, secretary Intu Sharma, Morigaon District Committee acting president Chanu Gogoi, secretary Manik Nath, and Lekhika Santha’s Morigaon Sakha secretary Rita Mishra were also in attendance.

The program was inaugurated by the chairman of the Central Committee of MAAS, Aditya Lahkar. Other dignitaries who inaugurated the event included Rajen Deka, president of the All Assam National Martyrs’ Family Coordination Council; Ghanshyam Sharma, family member of martyr Pradeep Sharma; prominent social worker Dharanidhar Buragohain; and president of the All Tiwa Chhatra Sangha, Cheniram Malang. The meeting was also attended by Jeevan Jeuti Krishak Sangha member Tulsi Deka and social worker Seema Deka.
