The incident unfolded on a Tuesday night at Tinsukia Thana Chariali, when a group of five individuals, including Santosh Phukan – previously arrested in connection with a lottery scam in the Tinsukia district – physically attacked journalist Bikash Baruah. The attackers also employed indecent language targeting not only Baruah but also journalists across the Tinsukia district. The aggressors went further, issuing threats of dire consequences to Bikash Baruah.

Promptly after the incident, Bikash Baruah filed an FIR with the Tinsukia sadar police station. Based on this complaint, the Tinsukia police detained Santosh Phukan and the other individuals involved. The investigation is currently underway, and updates will be provided as new information surfaces.
