Minister Pijush Hazarika Inaugurates Biswanath District

Biswanath Chariali, Sept 17: Assam state water resources and parliamentary affairs minister Pijush Hazarika on Sunday formally inaugurated the Biswanath district in a public meeting held at Kamala Kanta Natya Samaj in Biswanath Chariali.

Biswanath was declared as   full-fledged district in 2016. However, the district status was curtailed on December 31, 2022 due to some administrative issues. It retained the status of a district as per a government notification on September 7 this year.

The inaugural session was attended by all the MLA’s of Biswanath including Ranjit Dutta, Utpal Bora and Pramod Borthakur, MLA’s of Behali, Gohpur and Biswanath legislative assembly constituencies respectively.

Addressing the inaugural session, the state water resource minister, who is also in-charge of Biswanath district, reminded people about the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s promise to declare Biswanath as a full-fledged district after sorting out the issue of delimitation.

Pijush Hazarika said, “Today I am happy to inaugurate the newly declared district in the presence of all. Now, I would appeal to all of you to join hands to lead the district in the path of development.”

Hazarika also inaugurated the Amrit Brikhya Andolan and planted a sapling inside the premises of the venue. He also inaugurated the Amrit Kalash Yatra, a nationwide campaign undertaken by the Union government on the occasion.

Neha Jadav, district commissioner of Biswanath district delivered the welcome district on the occasion.

The programme was also attended by Prabin Hazarika, former minister, Paresh Borkakaty, vice chairman of animal husbandry, Biswanath SP Subhasish Baruah, Labanya Charengiya, chairman of Biswanath Zila Parishad, Pankaj Bora and Diganta Ghatowar among other dignitaries.
