MORIGAON, Feb 11: In a startling incident, a Bolero pickup van was set ablaze by enraged members of the public in response to allegations of cow smuggling and trafficking in Nellie on Saturday night. The van, loaded with 20 cows and bearing registration number AS 21AC 1668, was intercepted by angry locals at Silsang around 10 pm. A scuffle ensued between the irate crowd and the police, led by the superintendent of police, Morigaon. Despite police attempts to control the situation through lathi charge, the group of alleged cow traffickers managed to flee amidst the chaos and darkness. The tense standoff between the public and the police escalated into a lathi charge as the police struggled to quell the anger of the locals, who claimed to have regularly lost cows from their sheds due to theft.
