KOKRAJHAR, March 27: A Mock drill on Off-Site Emergency Preparedness and Village Awareness was conducted at the Swrang High School ground in Kokrajhar on Wednesday, as part of an initiative by Oil India Limited Pump Station-6, Bongaigaon, and IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri Pipeline (Bongaigaon Pump Station) in association with District Disaster Management Authority.
During the exercise, a simulated oil spill scenario led to a fire breakout, which was swiftly brought under control by the fire brigade.
The drill aimed to test emergency response mechanisms, train personnel, and educate local villagers on safety protocols in case of real-life industrial hazards.
Experts from Oil India Limited and IOCL demonstrated critical response measures, including firefighting techniques, evacuation procedures, and first aid training.
The drill also reinforced coordination between industry personnel, local administration, and emergency response teams to ensure preparedness for potential disasters.
Local villagers, students actively participated, gaining valuable knowledge on emergency handling.
The initiative emphasized community involvement in disaster preparedness, ensuring industrial safety, environmental protection, and public awareness for a more resilient response framework.
