MORIGAON, Aug 4: Assam’s Morigaon district administration has entirely demolished the Jamiul Huda Madrassa, located in the district’s Moirabari area on Thursday. Recently, the head of the Madrasa Mufti Mustafa was arrested for his alleged links with Ansarul Islam, a Bangladesh-origin terror outfit. Accordingly, the Madrasa’s premise was entirely bulldozed on Thursday by the local administration following the Madrasa head’s arrest.

Notably, earlier, the Assam police busted sleeper cells in Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Morigaon districts and recovered incriminating jihadi literature used for indoctrinating and radicalising gullible youths to join terror outfits. Jamiul Huda Madrasa’s head Mufti Mustafa was one among those accused sleeper cells busted by the police.

On Thursday, the Morigaon police was cooperated by the central reserve police force to materialise the eviction drive. Morigaon superintendent of police Aparna Natarajan and Laharighat circle officer Swaraj Lagasu led the demolition. The Jamiul Huda Madrassa was established in 2018.

A source of the Morigaon police claimed that the Jamiul Huda Madrasa had no permission from either the local panchayat or the district administration and was built on the land Mustafa had got as his share of his father’s property. In a press conference held on Thursday in Guwahati, Assam chief minister Himana Biswa Sarma stressed that the Morigaon Madrasa’s arrested head, Mufti Mustafa, was an important financial conduit for Ansarul Islam and small amounts were deposited in his bank account in regular intervals so as not to raise any doubts.
