JAGIROAD, Jan 4: Acting on the directives of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Morigaon district administration conducted a large-scale operation on Wednesday night to prevent potential accidents resulting from driving under the influence of illicitly sold liquor in certain dhabas along the National Highway and other busy roads. After sealing two dhabas and a shop in the Mayong revenue circle area on Wednesday, the Morigaon district administration once again sealed Changhar Dhaba on NH-37 in Jagiroad on Wednesday night. The raid was carried out by a team led by additional district commissioner Pranjal Barua following a tip-off. Sources indicate that police personnel and district administration officials entered the dhaba undercover and uncovered the illegal sale of liquor to customers without a license.
District commissioner Devashish Sharma has urged all dhaba owners in the district to abstain from selling liquor without proper licensing to avoid legal consequences. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against any dhabas involved in illegal activities. In a statement, he mentioned that raids were conducted on NH-37 passing through the district and some dhabas in the Mayong area since Wednesday. Several accidents resulting from driving under the influence of alcohol have occurred in these dhabas, leading the district commissioner to emphasise that the Morigaon district administration will not compromise on such actions under any circumstances. He further warned that such operations will continue in the future.
