GUWAHATI, Aug 3: In a bid to strengthen its sporting infrastructure, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has renovated two outdoor lawn tennis courts at the NFR Sports Association (NFRSA) complex in Maligaon.
The upgrade was formally inaugurated on July 30 by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, according to an official statement.
The new courts have been upgraded to international standards with a cushioned, latex acrylic resin-based surface designed for improved player safety, UV protection and competitive play.
Together with an existing indoor court, the facility will serve as a comprehensive training platform for players enrolled at the NFRSA Lawn Tennis Academy where around 50 students are receiving regular coaching.
The academy has previously produced medal-winning players at national-level tournaments.
Apart from tennis, NFRSA runs over a dozen sports academies including athletics, boxing, swimming, cricket, football and archery, coaching more than 2,000 athletes through certified trainers.
The NFR has steadily upgraded its infrastructure in recent years, adding indoor and outdoor stadiums, gymnasiums, synthetic tracks, a swimming pool, practice halls and sports hostel facilities to encourage fitness and promote sporting excellence among railway employees and their wards.
