SIVASAGAR, Dec 3: The North East Riders Meet, held in the serene Brahmaputra chapori near the picturesque Desangmukh near Sivasagar, concluded on Sunday evening with a jubilant musical extravaganza. More than 2200 bikers from across the globe gathered for the three-day event, which featured a gala performance by ‘Still Status’ from Meghalaya, ‘Blend’ from Nagaland, and ‘Indus Creed’ from Mumbai.
The final day of the meet saw hundreds of riders participating in various activities, including the Slow Motion Race, Dirt Track Racing, and other traditional games on a beautiful winter afternoon. On the first day, bands from Arunachal (The Classico), Assam (Miri), and Meghalaya (Imprints) entertained the crowd late into the night. The second day featured performances by bands from Assam (‘Mods Meet,’ ‘Colossal Corp’) and one from Bangalore (‘Speedtrip’).
Organised by Black Hurricane after an eight-year hiatus, the event not only served as a gathering for biking enthusiasts but also aimed to explore the eco-tourism potential of the district. It showcased over 500 historical monuments to global attendees, with strong support from the Sivasagar district administration.
Monroe Gohain Phukan, a key member of Black Hurricane, explained that the event was initially planned for Manipur, but due to deteriorating law and order, Desangmukh in Sivasagar was selected as an alternative venue. Bedanga Kashyp Sarma (Benu) credited Bitupon Neog, DDC, Sivasagar, for instrumental support from the administration.
Riders from all North Eastern states, including one from the US (Berry Thompson), enjoyed the festivities and explored the beautiful confluence of the Desang and Brahmaputra during the three days. Palzor Nangyal, a rider from Sikkim, expressed immense joy at being in this remarkable place by the mighty Brahmaputra, describing it as a phenomenal experience.
