NAGAON, June 10: Renowned academician and sports organizer Alimuj Zaman passed away at his residence in Guwahati on Tuesday due to age-related ailments. He was 92 years old.
Zaman was a highly respected figure in both educational and sporting circles of Nagaon. He served as a subject teacher at Nagaon Government Boys’ Higher Secondary chool for several decades, eventually retiring as the principal in 1993. His outstanding dedication to student welfare and commitment to education earned him the National Award for Teachers.
In the realm of sports, Zaman was actively involved with the Nagaon Sports Association, where he served as general secretary. He also contributed at the state level as assistant secretary of the Assam Football Association and was a coach for Assam Badminton, mentoring young talent and promoting sporting culture in the region.
His passing has left a deep void in the community. A host of organizations and individuals, including MLA Rupak Sarma, Dr. Sarat Borkatoki, and Tapan Das, secretary of the Nagaon Sports Association, have expressed heartfelt condolences.
Zaman’s demise is being mourned widely across Nagaon, with many calling it an irreparable loss to the town’s educational and sporting community.
