Noted educationist Khiradhar Baruah conferred with Narendra Deva Shastri Memorial Award

TEZPUR, Dec 12: The Sonitpur Press Club instituted prestigious award ‘Narendra Deva Shastri Memorial Award’ was conferred on noted science writer and educationist Khiradhar Baruah for the 2022 session at an august award giving function held on Sunday at Sahitya Sabha Bhawan here.
In connection with the event and in memory of the noted Sanskrit scholar, a talk on the subject ‘Scientific Temperament of the People’ was also held wherein delivering lecture on the subject, Ramesh Chandra Goswami, retired professor of Darrang College observed that “for a good society, our children are to be shaped with a scientific temperament of their thought”.
“Though we are getting formal education on science, scientific temperament is yet to reach the thought of the common masses of the society in our country as an outcome of which tragic incidents like witch hunting are witnessed even today,” Professor Goswami said adding that “if we can co-exist with morality and ethical thinking then we can surely have people in the society with scientific temperament”.
While receiving the award, Khiradhar Baruah in his speech stressed on building a society with scientific thinking.
Meanwhile, attending the event local MLA Prithiraj Rabha spoke on the contribution of late Narendra Deva Sashtri towards ethical journalism in the state and Assamese literature.
“He was a man with a good heart and soul who always tried to give valuable contributions to society,” Prithviraj said.
Earlier, journalist Pulak Kumar Deka delivered his keynote lecture on ‘Life and Contribution of Late Narendra Deva Shastri’.
In the programme, three noted lawyers of the town – Iskey Alom, Khemraj Adhikari and Amiya Kumar Saikia were specially felicitated for their contribution towards the society and their profession.
Attending the programme as special guests, Dr Bhubaneswar Saharia, Dr Sanjib Pol Deka from Tezpur University and president of Sonitpur District Hindi Sahitya Sanmilani, Dinesh Sarmah formally released three books by Naju Hati Kakoti – ‘Sapnar Swara Barna’, ‘Chandni ki Jaladhani’ and ‘Barna Moitrika’ (Translated book).
The meeting presided over by Subhash Chandra Biswas, president of Sonitpur Press Club, was conducted by senior journalist and noted teacher Pankaj Baruah.
It is pertinent to mention here that Sonitpur Press Club has been organising an oration cum award giving function in memory of Late Narendra Deva Shastri on his every birth anniversary since 2010.
