OBITUARY | Makhan Chandra Devagoswami

Satradhikar of Shri Shri Ratanpur Barkalia Satra, Makhan Chandra Devagoswami, who was also a noted social worker, breathed his last at his residence on Monday evening due to old-age ailments. He was 90. Devagoswami was the founder secretary of Dagaon Children Shelter, commonly known as Dagaon Anath Ashram, and was a retired adult education officer.
He leaves behind his wife, two sons, two daughters, a large number of relatives and followers across the state. Devagoswami was the son of Late Babula Nath Goswami, an illustrious teacher of then Jorhat Maktab Adarsha Primary School and said to be first recipient from Assam to receive National Award for teachers conferred by the President of India.
He was associated with several cultural and literary organisations that included Asom Satra Mahasabha and Asom Sahitya Sabha. His demise was widely mourned.
