Preparations begin for AASU AGM 2025 in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, Nov 17: A massive public meeting was held at the Boarding Field with Sivasagar District Students’ Union president Manob Hazarika in the chair to discuss the modalities for holding the All Assam Students’ Union’s (AASU) Annual General Meeting on January 27 and January 28, 2025, at the Jaysagar Parag Chaliha Memorial Stadium.

Addressing the gathering of distinguished citizens, Utpal Sharma, president of AASU, said that the people of Sivasagar are known for their hospitality and cultural heritage, and therefore, over 5,000 AASU delegates from different districts will not face any difficulties in holding their meeting. He added that the total budget for the session may be around Rs 1 crore, as the organisers will have to provide eight meals to over 5,000 delegates in addition to other expenditures.

Dipankar Saikia, district secretary, delivered the welcome address. Sarjun Hanche, secretary of AASU, in his speech, called upon the people of Sivasagar to extend their love and cooperation to AASU workers in organising the major event.

The meeting was also addressed by Prof Jogesh Bora, journalist Somesh Deka, former president of Sivasagar District Sahitya Sabha Juga Gogoi, Dr Prakash Kotoky, Dr Saumerjyoti Mahanta, Dr Prafulla Kalita, registrar of Sivasagar University, and representatives of Birangana Mohila Samity and Konwarpur Mahila Samity.

A reception committee was formed at the meeting, with Dr Sabyachasi Mahanta as the president, Brojen Bora and Sarat Hazarika as vice presidents, and Samiran Phukan as secretary, after some altercations among the participants.
