Review meeting on road safety conducted by District Road Safety Committee in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Aug 31: A crucial review meeting focused on road safety was recently organised by the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) at the DC Conference Hall in Haflong, under the leadership of district commissioner Simanta Kumar Das, ACS. The aim of the meeting was to address road safety measures and awareness within the Dima Hasao district.

During the meeting, superintendent of police, Dima Hasao, Mayank Kumar IPS, highlighted alarming statistics. According to recorded data, more than 32 accidents occurred in the district during the 2022-23 period, leading to the unfortunate loss of over 16 lives due to road accidents.

The district commissioner led discussions with the committee to assess the accident data and formulate strategies to tackle the road safety issue. Immediate action points were identified, including conducting road safety awareness campaigns in educational institutions, removing debris and obstructions from road surfaces, and prioritising the repair of potholes on highways and roads.

The meeting also addressed vital aspects such as the installation of road signage and speed limit signboards along the Lanka to Umrangso road, the implementation of CCTV cameras, joint inspections of vulnerable stretches on NH-27, and the proposal for a combined enforcement drive by the police and transport department to combat motor vehicle offenses.

Key officials attending the meeting included ADC James Aind ACS, senior medical & health officer Dr Parikshit Barman, as well as representatives from various departments including MVI, DTO, NHAI, PWD (R&B), and the inspector of school. This review meeting demonstrated a collective effort to enhance road safety measures and ensure the well-being of residents in the Dima Hasao district.
